Q: I want to sign myself or my child up for clogging, but it is the middle of the month. What should I do?
A: Don't worry about waiting until the next month, come and join us! And don't worry about having to pay a full month's tuition, we understand if you found out about Asheville Clogging Company after the month began and we will make sure to prorate your cost. The longer you wait the harder it is so catch up, so we welcome you now!
Q: My child is currently enrolled in a clogging class, but I would like for them to be moved to a more advanced class. How do I go about doing this?
A: Normally it is very difficult for a child to jump from one class to another because each class is working on different dances. When a child wants to change classes, we typically have them take 4 private lessons to catch them up to the other class. Please call if you are interested in scheduling private lessons to move up to a new class.
Q: What is the difference between clogging and tap?
A: Tap is done to the down beat of a song, and clogging is done to the upbeat. In simpler terms, tap is more focused on the sound and is done down on the heels, and clogging is focused more of the visual effect and is done on the toes. There is also a difference in the shoes. Tap shoes have a single tap. Clogging shoes have a double tap, one is nailed into the shoe and the other is loose and creates a jingling effect. Typically clogging involves more hand motions, partner interaction, and flashier costumes.
Q: Can I try a class for free before signing up?
A: Unfortunately, we don't offer a free trail class. All our clogging classes are working on routines, and it is too difficult for a beginner to jump in and try it without knowing the basics. However, our prices are lower than any dance studio in Asheville. If you decide clogging just isn't for you, you are not obligated to continue the next month.
Q: Do I have to have clogging shoes my first day of class?
A: We prefer that you have clogging shoes your first day of class, but if you aren't able to purchase them but that time, we understand. If you don't have clogging shoes, please make sure to wear tennis shoes or another comfortable shoe that won't slide off your feet.
Q: How much do clogging shoes cost?
A: Clogging shoes cost anywhere between $50-$65. The good news is that unlike many dance studios, we do NOT require you to buy a new pair of clogging shoes every year. You are welcome to wear the same pair as long as they fit you!
Q: Where can I purchase clogging shoes?
A: Clogging shoes can be purchased at Just for Kicks dance store, conveniently located within walking distance of our studio. There are also many dance stores throughout Western North Carolina which carry clogging shoes.
Q: Are all members of the Asheville Clogging Company from Asheville ?
A: Not at all! Our cloggers come from all over Western North Carolina . Many of our members come from such cities as Black Mountain , Brevard, Hendersonville , Mars Hill, and Waynesville, to name a few.
Q: What is the cost to participate in the performances?
A: There is NO additional cost to participate in performances! The Asheville Clogging Company typically has one performance a month and we welcome all cloggers to participate. Performing is a great way to build self-confidence! There is however, a once a year registration fee of $25 a person or $35 a family, to help cover the cost of parade fees and recital expenses. Other than that, all cloggers and their families and friends are welcome to attend all Asheville Clogging Company performances!
