About the Director, Miss Ashley Shimberg

Ashley began clogging at the age of 7, and began competing at age 9. She has trained extensively with a variety of clogging instructors and teams, and has been trained in Appalachian, Flatfoot, and Contemporary clogging. Ashley has experience in numerous years of training in tap, jazz, and ballet, as well as several years of competition with several jazz and tap companies. Ashley has been one of the top placing soloists in the country, and won eleven grand champion titles in the years 2002-2004. Currently, Ashley stays busy choreographing all team, solo, and duet routines for the Asheville Clogging Company, and scheduling performances throughout Western North Carolina for her cloggers. Ashley also does many solo shows at professional functions and events. Some of Ashley's clogging accomplishments include:

•  Over 300 awards in solo, duet, and team competition categories

•  Member of national champion TNC Elite Cloggers for 5 years

•  Named to the “2000” All American Clogging Team at age 14, which is chosen by America 's Clogging Hall of Fame

•  1 st runner up Teen Miss American Clogger 2001

•  First place soloist in America 's Clogging Hall of Fame National Dance Offs 2001-2003

•  Member of “Preferred Clogging Judges” List

And most recently, Ashley was chosen to represent clogging for its first time ever in the 2003 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Detriot, Michigan. Ashley was the only clogger chosen from North Carolina to compete in accapella solos, and she came home with the bronze medal! Ashley also qualified to compete in accapella solos in the 2004 AAU Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ashley has displayed her clogging talents in many places in the southeast, including: Bele Chere, Grove Park Inn, Grove Arcade, Dollywood, Tweetsie Railroad, Biltmore Estate, Black Mountain Folk Festival, Sourwood Festival, NC Apple Festival, Leaf Festival, Carnival Cruise Lines, and the Grand Ole Opry, to name a few.

Aside from clogging, Ashley is an honors student at the University of North Carolina at Asheville; where she is majoring in Management with a concentration in Marketing and minoring in Spanish. Ashley is a member of the UNCA Student Management Association and she plays the flute in the university band and flute choir. Ashley was also a Girl Scout for 13 years and earned the Girl Scout gold award.
